Bhogi Latest SMS Greetings 2012

The day preceding Makara Sankranti is called Bhogi and this is when people discard old and derelict things and concentrate on new things causing change or transformation. At dawn people light a bonfire with logs of wood, other solid-fuels and wooden furniture at home that are no longer useful. The disposal of derelict things is where all old habits, the vices, attachment to relations and materials things are sacrificed in the sacrificial fire of the knowledge of Rudra, known as the “Rudra Gita Gyan Yagya. It represents realization, transformation and purification of the soul by imbibing and inculcating divine virtues. In many families, infants and children are showered with fruit called “Regi Pandlu”, that is the Indian jujube fruit. It is believed that doing this would protect the children from evil eye. Sweets in generous quantities are prepared and distributed. It is a time for families to congregate. Brothers pay special tribute to their married sisters by giving gifts as affirmation of their filial love. Landlords give gifts of food, clothes and money to their workforce.

The second day is Makara Sankranti , also called “Pedda Panduga”, which literally means “the big festival”, when everyone wears new clothes, prays to God, and make offerings of traditional food to ancestors who have passed away. On the day after Makara Sankranti, the animal kingdom is remembered and in particular, the cows. Young girls feed the animals, birds and fishes as a symbol of sharing. Travel is considered to be inappropriate, as these days are dedicated for re-union of the families. Sankranti in this sense demonstrates their strong cultural values as well as a time for change and transformation. And finally, gurus seek out their devotees to bestow blessings on them. Kanuma Panduga is not as widely celebrated, but is an integral part of the Sankranti culture. Mukkanuma is popular among the non-vegetarians of the society. People in Coastal Andhra do not eat any meat or fish during the first three days of the festival, and do so only on the day of Mukkanuma, where as people in Telangana region observe only the first two days as part of the festival and eat any meat or fish on Makara Sankranti (Pedda Panduga), the second day of the festival. For this festival all families prepare Ariselu, Appalu and make an offering to God.

Hanuman Jayanti Festival Celebration 2012

Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Hanuman, the Vanara god, widely venerated throughout India especially in North India. It is celebrated during the month of Chaitra. Hanuman is an ardent devotee of god Rama, and is worshipped for his unflinching devotion to the God. From early morning, devotees flock Hanuman temples to worship him.

HappyHanumanJayanti2010_thumb

Hanuman Jayanti is an important festival of Hindus. Hanuman is the symbol of strength and energy. Hanuman is said to be able to assume any form at will, wield rocks, move mountains, dart through the air, seize the clouds and rival Garuda in swiftness of flight. He is worshipped in folk tradition as a deity with magical powers and the ability to conquer evil spirits.
The devotees will visit temples and apply tilak of sindhūr to their foreheads from the Hanumans body as this is considered to be good luck. According to the legend Sita was applying sindhūr to her head, Hanuman Ji questioned why and replied that this would ensure a long life for her husband. Hanuman then smeared his entire body with sindhūr, in an effort to ensure Rama’s immortality.

But I am sure that I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round… as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely.

21st may 2011 End of World, 21st May Doomsday, Harold Camping May 21

fter Saturday, May 21st, or what the Christian Radio Broadcaster Harold Camping calls 'End Of The World May 21st,' Camping should consider a job in Internet Marketing. As of this writing, Mr. Camping's wild, prediction, driven by his own homespun math and logic, only loosely based on The Bible, have come to dominate search.
Now, not less than five search terms related to Mr. Camping's work are among the Google Trends: "End Of The World May 21st," "may 21 doomsday," "may 21 rapture," "judgement day," amd "judgement day 2011."
On top of that, "Harold Camping" has been a Twitter top trend.
And all of that for something that will turn out to be just another day, as I predict:

But it's wild that, of all people, Harold Camping would earn this much attention. But, basically because he's the only person saying it, and because digital media has amplified his voice, it's hard to turn anywhere without hearing about "End Of The World May 21st," or anything else.
And if you think it's bad now, wait until Friday progresses.

Good Morning Everyone...I hope you had a good weekend! The weather here in The Sunshine State couldn't have been better! Here's a couple of Mother's Day cards that I made for my beautiful daughter in law and my good friend Gigi. I know neither one of them is MY mother but they are mothers just the same and I wanted to remember them on their special day--- That's it for today. If you have a question on the recipe or supplies that I have used in my posting, please feel free to email me. I'll be back later in the week with something from The Cutting Cafe. Thanks for stopping by...have a great day!

National Day of Prayer 2011 | Let Us Pray and Act Event

Millions of Americans will gather today in hotel ballrooms and on town squares, in church buildings and on campus lawns, for National Day of Prayer. Millions of other Americans will, no doubt, look on this public religious act with some suspicion. Is National Day of Prayer a religious cover for Tea Party conservatives? Are those who gather resisting a democracy that welcomes and protects the practice of diverse faith traditions?

But our confession cannot be that we have over-stepped the boundary between private faith and the public square. The problem is not that Christians have been too public with our prayer. What we must confess is that we have done too little to become the answer to the prayers we pray. So often, when faced with the problems of our world, we have asked, "God why don't you do something?" without realizing that God might be saying, "I did do something. I made you."

When prayed by followers of Jesus, "God bless America" cannot be a divine endorsement of a political agenda or an excuse for inaction, as if we were asking God to bless others so we don't have to. When we pray for God to bless anyone, we are challenged to see that we might be the hands of that blessing, for God has no hands but ours. When we pray "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done," we commit our whole lives to caring for the least among us -- the unborn and the undocumented. If Christians are praying with Jesus, we cannot stop praying and acting until we see the restoration of all that is broken in our lives, and in our streets: broken political systems and broken families, polluted ecosystems and shattered lives.

So rather than argue that National Day of Prayer is a dangerous vestige of the religious right, I say let's re-imagine it. Let's call Christians (and everyone else) to prayer. But let us also challenge ourselves to become the answer to our prayers. When we pray for the hungry, let's remember to feed them. When we pray for the unborn, let's welcome single mothers and adopt abandoned children. When we give thanks for creation, let's plant a garden and buy local. When we remember the poor, let's re-invest our money in micro-lending programs. When we pray for peace, let's beat our swords into plowshares and turn military budgets into programs of social uplift. When we pray for an end to crime, let's visit those in prison. When we pray for lost souls, let's be gracious to the souls who've done us wrong.

The good news is that we have a new prayer movement in America today. Dozens of churches and neighborhood-based new monastic communities have worked together with a team of liturgy experts over the past decade to craft a new resource for praying and singing together, remembering the great tradition of folks from St. Francis and St. Theresa to Martin Luther King and Dorothy Day, who have shown us what it means to become the answer to our prayers. Every day, tens of thousands of North Americans are now gathering in small groups to plot goodness in their local communities and listen carefully for God's guidance about how best to love our neighbors and our enemies. These groups will be praying today, as always. More importantly, they're committed to becoming the answer to the prayers they pray.

None of us can do everything, but everyone can do something. To begin to act on our prayers with any seriousness is to remember why we pray in the first place -- because anything worth doing is beyond our power to do alone. We cry out to God because we know we need help. But we have a God who does not want to change the world without us -- a God who chooses to work in and through us. So let us pray, and let us act.

Master Of Hounds Keeps It Classy | Kentucky Derby 2011 Contenders

Name: Master of Hounds. I say, you will not find a classier name find in this Derby. Welcome to Master of Hounds' estate. Please, never mind Buxley. He is simply tasting the wine to ensure it's not gone round the bend. Nothing sadder than a corked Burgundy, is there Buxley?

fddb697eee

He lost an eye in the service. Master of Hounds would tell you how, but Her Majesty requests his silence on the matter, and his by extension, as he was brought into the Crown's confidences late one night after several bottles of that very wine. Master of Hounds is a horse of his word, and will remain so.

Description: Oh, he is not of the common clay, and certainly did not come from your plebeian American ranks to soil his hooves with the filth of Churchill Downs dirt to lose. A grandson of the illustrious Mr. Prospector, he has the burdens the elites always feel when confronted with their predecessors, as ten of Mr. Prospector's progeny of varying degrees of relation have gone on to win the Derby. (Mr. Prospector had the misfortune to run his Derby in the same year as Secretariat.) (P.S. Sorry about that. Sincerely, Cruel Fate.

Nevertheless, his pedigree and freshly polished monocle will undoubtedly draw some significant betting come post time, and his freshly pressed tuxedos and impeccable table manners will undoubtedly draw the fillies at the post-race festivities. Remember that, peasants: even in defeat, he will still be nobility, and that is something you can never take from him.The odds are not good at the moment, but nobles are used to being singular cases. That said, more cheese and toast points, Buxley. Master of Hounds requires nourishment for maximum haughtiness.

Likes: Mustique in the winter. Richard Branson is such the gent, if a bit of a ruffian after a few drinks. The rustic but refined wines of the Italian Piedmont. The Real Housewives of Atlanta, because one must stay in touch with the common people, and he does find NeNe to be a compelling Medusa figure.

Dislikes: The Royals. Not even proper horsemen, if you ask him. The tragedy of the common people finding St. Barthes. The barbaric tax bracket he currently occupies in England. Anarchists. Kim Zolciak, since he has seen superior wigs on Karl Lagerfeld's drag queens. Poor people. The savagery of being bumped down to business class.
